I just found out about a new game in the tradition of SC2 called Starscape. I'm actually liking the overall gameplay more than SC2 although it's storyline and characters aren't as interesting. You can download it here:
If this weren't such a closely related game, this post would look almost commercial.
SS has been mentioned on PNFs boards, and I've only played the demo. Loved it and swore to buy it one day (when I have the money. Haven't yet, but I did just come into some cash, so maybe. Gotta beat StarCraft first before the wife'll let me even think about it, tho.)
I don't like their copy protection scheme so I'm going to buy the CD version. But it's an other wise great looking and great playing game. (In case this becomes a copy protection discussion, lemme state my view clearly. Copy Protection, good. Machine dependent copy protecion, bad. How many of you would be playing SC2 today if you had to play it on the same system you played it on?)
I've also seen it linked on lots of game-related web comics. Inktank, Penny Arcade, PVP. It's gotten around.
I think thier "download the whole game, but you can only play a bit if you don't register" is a brilliant marketting stragety. I so made me want to register. I was like, "It's right there. I can have it." Then I found out what it's copy protection was like and I decided to take an alternate route, but I still plan to buy it.
