Sylando missiles?
« on: July 12, 2003, 07:39:20 pm »

Does anybody wonder what real weapon of Sylando Probes is?

Quote from the game:

Quote
Captain:
And when defending itself, it uses its lightning weapon?

Sylandro:
No. The probe is armed with a battery of missiles.
It doesn't use its electrical discharge device in combat.

Captain:
What missile batteries? It always attacked us with lightning bolts!

Sylandro:
That's impossible! Its inconceivable!
The electrical discharge device is used only for breaking down raw replication materials
into their component compounds for easy gathering.

Anyone have idea how those missiles would it look like?

Any idea how to make "fixed" version of Sylando Probe ship, which uses missiles and not lightning bolts?
(or maybe is better for this one to ask TimeWarp guys)

I somehow think they won't look like humans heavy missiles,
nor as Owa (SC3 race) longer range MIRV missiles.
And especily not as Mrhmmmr or Spathi butt-missiles.

But somehow, short range MIRV missiles look like nice idea, which supplements their speed.
(anything long-ranged would be unbalancing considering ships speed)

And it's still a "battery" of missiles, so it should be more then one per attack.

HE removed ALL the sc2 ships in the new timewarp

he said he will do it along time ago, because some ppl from TFB told him to remove it cuz of copyright stuff

That sucks!

Well, I'll try not to upgrade my version of TimeWarp (May2003) and keep all those nicely rendered SC2 ships.

When I think that all those nice ships would go to waste...   Cry

P.S.
Actaully, SC2 ships were probably olny good reason for me to play TimeWarp at all (SC2 melee on steroids).

who told you that SC2 ships were removed? I found no indication to that on the TimeWarp site or on the latest code on CVS.

Well, I've never seen TimeWarp version of "patched" Probe, but I bet that it had long range missiles.

And since, long range missiles don't mix with fast ships (from balance point...

==> So any kind of balanced Probe, would probably have some sort of short range missiles.

I seriously doubt this, and I've got good reasons for this. So before anyone is going to repeat this rumour, let me state the following:
- Slylendro made this claim earlier on the freenode #sc2 IRC channel, and further investigative questions showed he knew none of the details, and it seemed to me that he has been filling them in himself and presenting these as facts. From the litteral quotes from Orz (one of the TimeWarp people) that he repeated, it seems that there is to be a "closed-source semi-commercial" (sic.) fork, and TFB didn't give them permission to use their characters for *that*. (Note that I said "didn't give permission", which is something else then "told to remove".) From the quotes, it's unclear whether or not they intend to continue with the old branch.
- TFB have always supported non-commercial open source fan-made derivatives.
- There has been no announcement of the sort.
- It looks like the ships are still available in cvs. Though sourceforge anonymous cvs is unbearable atm.

This quote is completely false.  TFB has apparently always been enthusiastic about fan-based star control work.

Slylandro please refrain from spreading false rumours, here or in any other forum.  We'll say this time that it was an honest mistake, in which case either a brief apology or modifying your posts to reflect the facts would be courteous.

man does it really makes any diffrence?
i talked with orz a few months ago and he said some guys from TFB came to the channel(enterthegame #sctw) and asked the ships to be removed, and he personally in icq said he will remove the original sc2 ships sometime in the future, and now 2 days ago i dl the new TW and i can't seem to find any sc2 ship.. only the one he created

so doesn't really matters if TFB asked him or not, the ships just not there anyway

btw my nick is slylendro with e, i know its spelled with a

slylendro:
Check the CVS repository under the somewhat surprising title "sc2"

or follow this link: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/timewarp/ships/sc2/

they are all there.

spreading rumors can be a dangerous thing.

i dunno about the cvs, im just saying, the current cur.zip doesn't contain sc2 ships, or it's just difficult to get them through there

the ppl i used to play TW with aren't ppl that know shit about cvs
