It is theoretically possible to win the game without the Melnorme, since they only provide Precursor Upgrades and Information.

Your flagship will not have very good technology, and doing side quests like the Shofixti might be very difficult without lander upgrades ("Who volunteers for lander #34 to shoot at the VUX beast?").  You don't need the info the Melnorme provide, since you can rely on luck to find things.

Well, remember that damage done to creatures holds over, so it will me merely inefficient -- shoot at the thing and fly back up. Lots of fuel, but no need for casualties (and the casualties wouldn't even help).

Why would you want to have the Melnorme against you?

Yes I know, they could be a bit annoying when trading, but other than that they're very useful.
All right, fighting with them is fun,but that's why you have Super Melee mode,or go farther and try with Time Warp.

Druuge, bah they are just big thiefs, besides,I don't think they will like you too much after you take their Precursor bomb...

Well, for some extra challenge.
And to get things more interesting.
Especaily if you finished normal game several times.

Yes, I tried to beat the game as fast as humanly possible once, without meeting the Melnorme at all and not finishing the Shofixti quest. I managed to do it by November of 2155, but I imagine it could be done even sooner, since I did bungle up a bit here and there.

And yes, you need to deal with the Druuge no matter what.

Nope, you don't have to deal with them, but it that case, they will die by the koar-ah, and if they already died, it means the utwig already died. So why you need the rosy sphere? GO AND TAKE THE BOMB!!!

What's best way to quickly make deep exploartion ship for small cost. Which upgrades are best?

... Primat, you've finished this game in every way humanly possible, haven't you? Out of curiosity, do you do this with all games, or is this an exception?

I believe there is a gene inside of her called the "super geek gene"... I call it a disease.  It's incurable and there have been no survivors.  Symptoms include an urge to have night-long LAN parties and play Star Control II 100 times a day.  Warning: Contageous in geek-infested places like chess clubs and Warcraft 3 multiplayer games.  Apply ointment daily to ease the pain.

Ah, the Internet.  Giving people with nothing on their minds the power to prove it.

Haha... I was the first recorded case of this awful geek disease, my friend!

I like to prove, on a consistent basis, that my level of knowledge is lower than the average human being on the 'net.  And if I had to prove a point in every post, I'd stay away from the web altogether...  no way I could do that.

The Trader is a fun ship to fight against, even if you lose.  I hate how the computer still has an excellent steering ability even after you've stunned him with your second ability.  Still, something fun about pounding that huge ship with your guns.

Actually it was around the time that everyone was asking how quickly SC2 could be beaten, I believe somewhere around March or so. What with my fiancee at work all day, I had lots of spare time. And I don't really do this with all games, to answer your question, just ones that don't bore me to tears upon replay.

Replaying games can be fun, if its a game where its actually fun and challanging to do so.  And once you beat a game a couple times, its even better to find some sort of user-imposed dificulty mod to crank up the game even more!

Its not a new idea, havent your heard of the japanese dudes (actually, im sure gamer everywhere do it but whenever I hear about it its some japanese guy) who go through FF2 and beat the game at level 5, or go through Zelda and dont collect the heart contaners?  I myself got really into Metal Gear Solid 2 (despite the flakey plot and lame main charactor) and beat it on extreme with no radar AND NEVER ONCE KNOCKED OUT OR KILLED A GUARD!  It was totally sweet.   Geek-Gene indeed!
