What is everyones favorite ship layout in sc2? I personnaly like a hellbore at the front 5 shiva's behind it, with 3 tracking systems, then 2 super fuel tanks, with 4 crew pods behind that, and a small ion cannon at the back.

My layout is typically (from front-to-back): Hellbore, hellbore, shiva, shiva, shiva, shiva, shiva, track, track, crew, hi-fuel, PDL, xxx, xxx, xxx (where xxx is either storage bays or shivas or a mix of those two).
The exceptions for this are: - The beginning of the game has a preference towards cargo bays and fuel tanks, but that's just as well since I normally haven't acquired the Melnorme's tech yet. - Visiting the Druuge takes the layout of hi-fuel * 15.

For the my dreadnought killer setup when I collected a lot of RUs: Hellbore, Hellbore, ATS, dyamio, dyamio, dyamio, crew pod, cargo bay, crew pod, shiva, shiva, shiva, shiva, shiva, hi-fuel, hi fuel. This setup anhillnates any almost ship you face except for the Utwig Jugger giving you near-contiunous fire.

My Dreadnaught-killer config consists of the following:
Crew Pod Hellbore Cannon Tracking Sytem Point Defense Dynamo Unit (3) Shiva Furnace (8) Hi-Eff Fuel
Using this configuration I can continuously fire for much longer than I would need to actually kill something. I also have a strong tendancy to have spare ships with large crews (like Spathi or Utwig) for spare bodies so that I can stay in the slice of Ur-Quan space just beyond Betelgeuse for very extended periods. Though the tracking is not perfect, it gets the job done as long as I'm in range, and the Point Defense will prevent a Dreadnaught or Nemesis from launching anything at you (even when idle)! Very handy and makes harvesting Ur-Quan hulls for resources much less painful.
Using this config I've come about as close as I can get to having 0 drain on my batteries while firing. The only way I'd probably to actually attain that would be to lose either the PDL or, even worse, the tracking system. Both of these seem like worthless sacrifices, considering how quickly I annihilate large groups of "resources".

I can do outrunning, but I most definately hate when a Dreadnaught warps in really close to me, and annihilates me at close range. I like to prepare for such contingencies.

My long-term battle setup - of course, I run about 3 or 4 other setups in the game depending on what I'm doing at the time.
Hellbore Cannon (2) - both in front Tracking Modules (2) Crew Pod (2) PDL (1) HD Fuel Tank (1) Shiva Furnaces (5) Dynamos (3)
I can hold the fire button down and fire out continuously...you need two tracking modules to make the hellbore in the second position curl around tight enough...
And to the others who didn't post dynamos in their setup, as explained in here, the dynamos have a different function than the shiva furnaces. You can have a max of 3 dynamos in your ship and not be wasteful (the 4th is a waste and gets you NOTHING). Each dynamo increases the amount of energy regenerated per cycle. Each shiva furnace doubles the amount of energy regenerated. If you search there's long dissertations and mathematical formulas about this that have been posted long ago in this board.
The PDL does help...why run from their little presents when you can just blow their ship out of the sky without worrying at all?

My setup is Hellbore, Hellbore, PDS (this nifty tool makes sure the Dreadnaughts never fire those damn fighters, even though I'd use the PDS nowhere else), tracking, tracking, tracking, crewpod, fuel, then the entire rest of the ship devoted to Shivas. Nothing can survive three seconds of sustained fire with this baby.

Captain Smith is right. If I'm not mistaken, you can also find the details in the interesting facts section of the pages of now and forever. If I'm not mistaken again, the fact was written by meep-eep, and the best energy setting is three dynamos and the rest shivas.

My favourite SIS-configuration:
Crew, Hellbore, ATS, Shiva, HiEffFu CrystalAmplifiers The cute 'don't-touch-it'-device even more crystal amplifiers
Shortly after, the 'Big Trophy' (aka Sa-Matra) will have lost the different Ur-Quan Kzer-Za and Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah bodyguards and even some more seconds later it will be defenceless. Then I, Captain Krulle, of the Empire of Krulle (hey - I am the one with the big starship!) will board the ancient Precursor Starship, establish an UI with the Computer and will subjugate more than just the known parts of space!. HAR-HAR-HAR!

So you like the Super-Duper Glory Device eh? A plan a Shofixti would love - you'd be surprised the Chmmr would come up with a plan like that. Looking at that crew pod though I'd bet all you'd end up with is 50 Shofixti...heh.
Big Glory Device....WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
