The Attack of the WinXP StickyKeys
« on: December 03, 2002, 07:33:10 pm »

This is not really a bug in UQM, but I wish to highlight that Windows XP (Pro, at least, not sure about Home edition) is sometimes set to listen to a signal of *five shift keypresses* and out pops out a dialog box asking if you want StickeyKeys to open.  Since it opens above the game window, it is irritating in the extreme, especially since you normally press lots of shift keys during intense moments such as battling hostile creatures with landers and during space combat...

The complete list of Accessibility triggers taken from the WinXP control panel is:
1. StickyKeys: Press the SHIFT key five times.
2. FilterKeys: Hold down the right SHIFT key for eight seconds.
3. ToggleKeys: Hold down the NUM LOCK key for five seconds.

The way to disable these triggers is as follows:

0. Control Panel | Accessibility Options opens the dialog that you get when you activate any of the above signals.

1. Under the Keyboard tab, StickyKeys frame, click on Settings.  Uncheck "Use shortcut" under Keyboard shortcut frame.

2. Under the Keyboard tab, FilterKeys frame, click on Settings.  Uncheck "Use shortcut" under Keyboard shortcut frame.

3. Under the Keyboard tab, ToggleKeys frame, click on Settings.  Uncheck "Use shortcut" under Keyboard shortcut frame.
