ATTN Board Owner: YaBB Mods?
« on: September 01, 2003, 03:17:40 am »

I'm not sure exactly who owns the server this board is on, so I figure I may as well post up here to get attention. Have you given thought to installing a few mods into this message board? In particular, I was thinking about a notification sound when you receive new messages in your IM inbox. I too run a YaBB at http://forum.customc.net (note: heavily modded), and if you would be willing to install some mods I could potentially offer assistance implementing new forum features.

Just a thought...

I'm the only one who has access to the board software atm. I rather spend my time on the uqm code itself, but if you can point me to this mod, and it can be applied quickly, without reading too many docs, then I'd be willing to install it.

It's understandable that you'd rather be working on UQM. I (and likely many others) would agree with this approach.

BoardMod seems to have been taken down as part of some protest, but thankfully I was still able to get to the mods page through some creative Googling.

This is the original mod which works for my board (YaBB 1 Gold) and has sounds that the most recent version is said to lack. The .mod files stored in these zips are in fact raw text that BoardMod (the program) uses to automatically patch local files. If you prefer you can do the edits manually. The format for these .mods are in an HTML-like style.

<edit file>: Opens a file
<search for>: Searches for this text in whatever file has been opened in <edit file>
<add after>, <add before>, and <replace> always follow a <search for> and should be self explanitory.

If you require assistance, I am at your service.

If I apply this mod, will this make upgrading YaBB itself in the future more involved?

Possibly yes. It depends on what parts of the board software got updated as a result.
