UQM v0.3 has arrived.. What do you think about it?
« on: September 07, 2003, 11:40:42 am »

I just downloaded UQM 0.3 so for I like some the improvements making it closer to remesible SC2. Such as now you have 50 savegame slots, 14 melee slots for each team. Everything loads up much faster thanks to a cleaner library making the overall gameplay more fludent. As far as stability I can't comfirm if it's better or not.

Rename yourself right at the beginning, then go get the moon base.

Now try it on 0.2.

Tada!!  More stable  Grin

Hehehe Smiley
Or try:
Cyborg melee actually works!

But seriously...you should have a much more stable experience with 0.3 over 0.2. A lot of crashes/freezes were fixed, as were some nasty memory leaks, so overall it's fabulous!

It's definitely better than 0.2. I like the restoration of the 2 extra ship slots per team in super melee. It just feels right.

What the "setup" in the menu does? When I press on it, it does a sound like a device that does nothing (most likely).

Thanks dev team... You guys just place perhaps one of the best part of SC2 back! The ending where the various races say their last words and stuff Smiley eventhough, there are no voices I just imagine them in my head.

A fantastic, well polished release.  The only problem I've had with it is forgetting to uninstall UQM .2 before installing .3, leaving me with a mess of data files.  I ended up deleting everything and installing .3 from scratch again  Tongue

I really really like all of the command line options, you can tell a lot of effort was put into satisfying both PC game players and 3DO game players.

Hey, there isn't a script for linux up. When I unzip the content zip, I don't find the executable. Am I supposed to compile the source, or what?

You are indeed.  Unix binary releases were more trouble than they were worth for us, and now that a number of distributions have actually made packages for those distributions, we've sort of given up on trying to do binary compatibility ourselves.

But if you're on Unix, we always recommend building from source.

Your content stays zipped, too, actually.  The source distribution should contain detailed installation instructions.

I have a quick question about melee, I did a quick search, and couldn't find anything, so I thought I'd just ask in here. Is it possible to change the way it zooms in on the ships? In the 3DO version it scaled smoothly in on the ships, which is how it works in UQM, but in the PC version it just sort of snapped in. If it can't currently be done, is it possible to be added?

If you're running Linux, using CVS is probably the most convenient way to update UQM, despite SourceForge's performance problems. You get the latest code (almost; anonymous CVS may lag behind by up to a day), all the content updates automatically, and the actual download is quite small. On a modem connection, it's the only decent way to update UQM.

If you have all the libraries, compiling UQM is just a matter of running a build script anyway, so there is little need for a binary release.

Hm. That may have been my problem. I tried anonymously CVSing into sourceforge, but couldn't connect.
