UQM 0.3 Windows Loader program (v1.1)
« on: September 09, 2003, 12:33:12 pm »

I made loader program to make UQM 0.3 configuring and loading a lot easier for Windows users. Program doesn't need any additional dll files (it's not Visual Basic program).

Features:
- all UQM 0.3 command line parameters with easy access
- automatic add-on scanning

New in v1.1:
- New: Tries to find location of uqm.exe automatically, so loader can be in other directory too
- New: "/run" command line parameter, will start with set configuration automatically, also loads any new addons automatically
- Changed: Addon configuration is much better now, loader detects addons automatically and shows a list of them with checkboxes to disable loading of individual addons
- Fixed: default content folder now correct when clicking the
 browse folder button

Wow thanx!!! This is really good! You should put it in the offical releases. But can you explain what everything do? I don't know what some of them do.

Here we go again. Read the UQM manual (all the options are the same as the command line options) or ask specific questions, please. If you don't understand specific terms, you can try searching for explanations of unfamiliar terminology.

Nifty.
Just a perfect overview what's necessary (i'm always far too lazy to read through a manual to see all the switches).
And quite self-explanatory.
Thanks, Mark Vera!

Actually I'm graphician too. My contribution to the UQM so far is the program icon and the new main menu. (although it uses the original image as background).

Hi Mark,

I'm just now getting around to trying this out...  I can't get the add-ons to appear in the loader program at all.

The add-ons themselves load fine into UQM 0.3 if I do it normally from the command line switches without the loader program.

Maybe it has something to do with my install location/path? (maybe it doesn't like the "_" or "." in my path?)  My setup:

D:\games\uqm_0.3
and
D:\games\uqm_0.3\content\packages\addons

and add-ons....
D:\games\uqm_0.3\content\packages\addons\mv-0.1-sfxpak\mv-0.1-sfxpak.zip
D:\games\uqm_0.3\content\packages\addons\yellow-fried\yellow-fried.zip

Trying to figure out if its something I'm doing wrong or a bug, etc?

Thanks!

Tried, works here. I had path E:\games\uqm_0.3\ and it finds the addons. Are you running the loader from UQM directory, same where the uqm.exe is? If not, is your installation correct? Because Loader tries to detect the UQM path from registry  (more specifically from the uninstall info) if it cannot find uqm.exe from same directory.

I assume it is.  I did uninstall uqm and reinstall to this location before trying the loader program.  That is probably where it is failing... like it left the original uninstall key in the registry or something and is trying to use that old path?  I'll take a look at it when I get home.  Thanks!

BTW, if it detects from the registry settings, why can you specify the location of the content directory on that same tab?  Are you assuming the content directory can be in any location but the add-ons folder will always been in the uqm installed path?

Yea, I have the same problem too. I can't put the slylandro or the Illwrath remix themes. I put it everywhere in the uqm/content dir  Grin Nothing works.... Maybe it has something to do with the OS.

That's because they are MP3 files.
And UQM only supports OGG as custom music.

So, for exmaple you could use Ringwraith's Thraddash remix, since it's an OGG file.

That is small bug from my side, but doesn't matter much at this point, because UQM doesn't use the content path parameter for addons if I recall right (bug from UQM 0.3 side). The content path directory is just passed as parameter for uqm.exe at the moment.

When I got the time I will add some additional info showing what paths it is using and add that add-on installation feature I was planning (basically just copy operation for the zips).

Yes, that would be very helpful for solving my problem.  I did a search in my registry for "uqm" and found this...

Install_Dir = d:\games\uqm_0.3

UninstallString = "d:\games\uqm_0.3\uninstall.exe"

So, the paths look correct in the registry...  :-/
