I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

I'm having trouble with this and would love some help. I just installed UQM v.3 after a few troubles. It seems the initial content.zip i downloaded was 7mb not 12. So re-downloaded and it was all better.
Anyway, when playing the game continually freezes. If I try playing a melee, the ship chooser screen appears but when I select battle, a blank screen comes up and freezes. It also happened in the game when I went into hyper space and when I tried to have a melee. Any ideas???
If its of any help- I didn't download the optional sound and music zips.
I love this game- haven't played since the original.

Update: I have downloaded the music now and put the zip in the content\packages folder, but there is no music. I can't get any sound effects to work at all.
And the freezing still happens- every time I'm about to battle! Help Please!

I'm on PC with Win XP. I tried reintalling it with the (optional)music zip now, and it is working. Or hasn't crashed yet at least. Didn't do anything else differently- how strange but good. Doesn't seem very optional to me.
