Well, 10,000 posts isn't so significant as the membership count, which is currently 747. Also a count of the guests we get would contribute.

Only 747. That's not very much. Assuming that everyone here bought a new starcontrol, is 474 copies sold enough to really justify the time and expense in making a game? I don't know.

Then again, what sort of support does a mildly successful game get? Is 474 vocal forum member representitive of a good game? Does anyone have the stats?

Well, if we all promise to buy 20 copies ofthe game, that makesalmost 15 000 copies sold already, and that's only counting the hardcore fans. Now, if we each buy 200 copies....

Without writing a script into the code of this forum, the answer would be a no. Mind you, I'm no moderator here, but running a similar board to this one (with a great deal of mods on it) gives me some insight into such things.

There are some logfiles in the ./Members directory (that shouldn't be accessible except via site owner), .log I think, that at least tell the last time a given person has logged in. Of course this only applies to members, but it'd be a start to collecting such statistics. It would also be theoretically possible to process every one of the .dats in ./Messages and count the exact number of people that have posted and the last time they posted, guests and all.

Of course, all of this happening depends on the willingness of meep-eep to either implement it (probably not happening) or empower someone to do so. I'd volunteer for this task if such willingness is present.

So technically, it is possible, but highly impractical to produce a list of all members who have been active within, say, the last month or so. And possibly also guests. Thanks for clearing that up.

but it seems like this forum is about to die...

New threads has the same topic as old ones, people talk almost about nothing and mostly repeat themself. From time to time someone make a new thread about something no one talked about or newbies who weren't here think it is "new". I am here for only 2 months or some and to be honest, I'll admit this place has nothing more to offer!( except for the "new x.x version is out" or "new remix for xxxxx race")

This happens for one reason and one reason only! How much you can talk about the same thing over and over again? No new plot at all! It is a shame for me to admit it but this game starts to get boring after the 12 time I beat it.... :-/

Anyone else feels the same? I know it will piss off some guys here like the core team, and I will probably get a ban but still I remind you that I STILL think this project is awesome.

Apocalypse now! I told you it is about to die, this time I hate to be right... Cry

The technical things may end, perhaps when 1.0 comes out. We still have 0.7 updates to go, mind you.

One thing that won't die on here, I don't believe, is the discussion and/or arguing of logics, theories, strategems (as long as I'M around they won't, anyway), and of course, random bits of code slapped into pages.

I .E.: The "Whatever happened to the Androsynth?" thread. I resurrected it just because I wanted to get it to the forefront of people's minds (and had plenty of input on it myself), and it lasted about 2 months! Not too bad for an older post, IMHO.

Stuff like that makes people THINK. Makes 'em think, "What if...?"  As long as humans will wonder about things, ANYTHING...even something like the things that transpire in a game...as long as you have that mental cognation, this forum won't die.

and ofcourse "stealing" 92 of my post to my "ships from best to worst" thread which went to "better than banter"... but no hard feeling... Tongue But here is a fact, people post here in the last week 1 post per day. This is not much. Period.

But does it have to be much? No need to blabber all the time if one can have a relaxed civil and slow discussion brewing for month. Discussions are like wine. The older they get, the better they are, until the point where they turn into vinegar, and anyone reviving/drinking them should be dragged into the street and shot.

To fire up the old Argument Cannon again...

Jiffa, I didn't "steal" your post. I left it right where it was. The post I started had little or nothing to do with yours, in fact. Yours was, well, you starting off by saying what ships were "the best" and then what appeared to be heavy flaming to anyone that didn't agree. My post discarded all prejudice towards other people's ideas and feelings about the ships and just told them to tell us their favorite, why, it's strengths/weaknesses, and ways to use it effectively. Coincedentally, it DID turn into a stratagem list, but it's quite useful. At least, I've learned alot about ships from it.

Hope this isn't *vinegar*. Hehe, a new Orz word.

Heh, this forum is doing quite well for a forum with no "General Discussion", "Off-Topic", etc. forum. It isn't a massive forum with hundreds of posts in a day, but I think I like it better the way it is.

DJ - I think I know what's your problem is..

You godda move on- I know your Pc preety much sucks in your opinion, but it still doesn't mean that there are other games around.

You can't expect to play SC all day and still enjoy it do you?

Do what I do- I play other games (e.g. the Final Fantasy series), and sometimes when I quit to windows I find the UQM icon- click on it- play a little, and move on.

Sometimes if I feel like it I play the Full Game for a longer time.

Anyways- either you should do that,
or you can always join www.neopets.com and play with me..  Tongue
( Shocked Please don't flame me!!!!!!!  Shocked)

I don't care if I have radeon 9800 pro, 2000 ram I still won't be able to play anything else with 600MHz!!! And yes I play other games too, uqm is a good game, but it can't keep you playing forever.

You can't play anything with 600 Mhz? Morrowind runs quite well on my 500 Mhz and Radeon 7500.

You can run some decent games with 600 mhz. Starcraft (+expansion) is the best RTS ever and is dirt cheap, so grab that if you have not already.

Also, ANYONE who likes rpgs should go to www.spidweb.com and download a few of their big, free demos for the avernum and geneforge games. They have subpar graphics, but low requirements and good gameplay.
