What in God's name is this game about? There is no description on this site that I can see.

It is about many things. The description is "It's a port of the classic game Star Control 2,", which usually suffices since most of the current player base remembers the original.

The main Star Control fansite has web-available versions of the manual's backstory and the PC's intro slideshow.

it's a special game for certain type of people...
i know some people will see how it looks at the first and wont like it
but the game is mostly about the story, not about how it is played
although i like the way it is played too.

if you start the game now just play a bit sc1 melee and figure
who are the aliens and ships, since there's a very basic background
built on sc1(it's not a must to play sc1 to understand sc2 tho)

it's a simple and fun game that requires alot of time and patience to finish
ask the commander in the start for all background information and download the 3do beginning movie from pnf

Star Control 2: The Ur-quan Masters is a great game, truly unique and a classic. The main game is difficult to put in any one genre. You mine planets, make alliances, talk with aliens, and fight your enemies - it's difficult to explain. Combat is done in a simple but incredibly fun top-down interface, with ships fighting each other one by one.

This is a port of the 3do version (there was a computer version, but it won't run on most comps). The best site to go to is www.star-control.com, it has gobs of info. You can also download it, see how you like it, though I reccomend starting out with Supermelee.

We I used to be bored, but then we i bought this cool entertainment product.
It simulated a grand adventure through a thousand parsecs of hostile space
where we i met interesting aliens, uncovered the secrets of a long-lost superior race
and eventually, to save our worlds from destruction, we i had to face the dread...
never mind, I can tell you aren't really interested.

No it isn't! Frungy had nothing to do with it! The game is about war, slavery, intolerance, courage, heroism, and the inevitable triumph of Good over Evil!

Any rumors of TFB getting millions in Frungy endorsements are all shameless lies.

(Side note to Bob: Most of the replies you're getting are quotes from various spots in the game.)

Pablo seems to have forgotten that Syreen are purple or blue... (judging from the Syreen on the ground image)
