Avoiding the Ur-Quan Drone?

Has anyone gotten out of orbit with earth before the ur-quan  drone caught them? I finally managed to do it after 18 tries. Does this have any affect to the game?

How did you do it? Run to the moon, then wait for it to come after you  from the northern end of the moon, then run when it's in the middle, etc. ??

I suspect it has ZERO effect.

I came in near the bottom right hand corner of the orbit screen. I put full thrust on and turned to the right and went out the side. So I started from the bottom side and ended up at the right side.

You cannot avoid the Ur-Quan Drone it goes much faster then you even when you edit your savegame to get full thrusters/turning jets.

The game logic assumes it's impossible.  You can hack the SIS's capabilities to make it ridiculously fast, lead the drone on a chase throughout the system, then get to the Starbase before it catches you; the plot still unfolds as if it had caught you.

I used savegame editor to do it, managed to get in and out of Earth orbit, but made it about half-way to Mercury when it caught me.
