Now take the spathi, a race that fears everything and anything. They do not do something unless it is the less risky thing to do. Now of all thing why would they try to advance their Technology when it is risky to play with fire, chemicals, large amounts of electricity, space exploration, sharp objects and so on. they would be to scared of the risks of radiation or instant decompresion to even go into space. Then there is scary hyperspace.
as humans we tend to fear what we dont understand. so we make it illegal. (human cloning and stemcell research)
I believe the spathi would kill anyone who tried to figure out the secrets to the universe.
what do you think?

The Spathi were propelled into their spaceage because they needed to escape the cuddly Evil Ones. Playing with electricity, fire, chemicals, radiation, et al was less risky than living on a planet with teddy bears that craved sweet spathi flesh.
Once they'd gotten a standard procedure set for scientific research (and were out in space), they would realize that all their knowledge made things less risky for them in the long run. Remember that they have warships. Making the explosives for the BUTT's is risky, but it's more risky to not have a planetary (or lunar) defense.

Not trying to throw this topic off-subject so early, but wouldn't it be easier to make anti-evil one's armor and weapons to kill off their foes than to make a starship program and move your entire race off the planet?
It seems a whole lot more risky to move everyone to the moon than it is to kill an entire species (look at humans, we've been doing it for centuries and we weren't even threatened by most of them).

the spathi, being the cowards they are, would take the less confrontational position. moving the entire race is not as scary as fighting a creature, bent on eating you alive. id risk space flight, if it ment...CHOMP, CHOMP, CHOMP...BUUUUURP!

Well, seeing that the Spathi are unwilling to fight the monster (hey, they could have blasted it from the orbit), i think fleeing is their natural instinct and fits quite perfect. And if the evil live across the complete planet, i think it is safe to asume that they would flee the planet to avoid contact, if necessary.
Think of their Spaceships name: Eluder, they simply avoid contact, no matter what it is.
And firing a weapon could always result in the destruction of the weapon, which could hurt the Spathi using it.
So, fleeing is a wise choice, as far as i can see.

I'm just saying look at where we are now.
Can we go into outer space? Yes.
Can we go to our moon? Yes.
Can we make a colony in space or the moon? Yes, but it's very limited.
Can we move everyone on the planet to the moon? Not even close.
Now look at weapons and shelter:
Weapons of mass distruction? Oh yeah
Ability to remotely control weapons? definitely
Ability to make nearly impervious shelters? check
Now, why is it easier and safer to move the population of an entire planet than it is to hide and kill these creatures remotely?
Also, do you feel safer with:
A) knowing a species that wants to kill you is around that MIGHT not be able to get to you, yet you know is still alive or
B) wiping out said species and having the ability to do it again in the future IF they ever show up.
On a side note, if they were smart enough to reverse engineer the slave shield by studying the one around Earth, why didn't they just do it earlier by studying the one on Procyon or Betelguese(sp?) ?

The point they make is that everything they tried to do to kill the Evil Ones failed. The Captain didn't even kill them, they were just stunned.
Slave shields? Hmm... that's a tough one, especially considering that Spathi were supposed to be guarding Earth. Maybe the Slave shields can only be studied properly with some of the Ur-Quan sensors on the Starbase.

the evil ones are most likely not invincible but breed so fast like moths that they could not be killable. but when they left their planet the main food source for them disapeared so they stated to die off from starvation.
why didnt the spathi make a SDF-1 Macross to kill them off?few shots from the main cannon and you wipe out any evil ones left.
