The Mycon-Syreen Quest
« on: December 06, 2003, 05:12:38 am »

I've just convinced the Syreens to join the Aliance, and now I'm supposed to go to the Mycon homeworld to lure them into a trap.

They're homeworld is in Beta Brahe, right?  I keep going there and I have the option to tell them about the trap, but I just get a message to leave the planet.  Is there something that I've forgotten, or is this just another bug?

Tis good to be back on the forum in spite of the fact that probably no one remembers me.

Nope. That's not their homeworld. Their homeworld is...

Epsilon Scorpii

We need to make a forum bot to answer this question. :p

We have one; it's called the Forum FAQ, and it implores people to read before they post.  But it seems noone ever does.  Sad

Not entirely your fault.  I suppose Forum FAQ could be misinterpreted as 'questions frequently asked about this forum', instead of 'questions frequently asked on this forum'

I scanned the FAQ.  I don't have time to leaf through complex legal documents like that all day. Wink

Instead of leafing through it, you could just use a text search (Ctrl+F on most browsers) on that page for "Mycon" and find it in the first and second tries.

The Mycon question isn't actually _in_ the FAQ, it's in the first comment.  Before you get to it you reach this question:

Quote
Q: I am stuck!  I have a question about the gameplay, story, quest or puzzle of The Ur-Quan Masters.  Can you help me?

A:  Most definitely my child.  There are many *happy campers* around here that would love to help you figure out how to get past your *difficult time*.  Ask away!

I think it would help if the answer to the Mycon question was put into the faq ABOVE this point.

I think one of the problems causing this confusion is that when you visit the sun device planet the option is presented to tell them about Organon. When you do, they ignore you and respond as if you've said something else. This looks like a genuine bug

Damn... the man is right! Get him more Grog™!
Instead of putting the text with the location of Mycon's homeworld (which would need voice actors etc. and would be simply impossible) just delete the option of telling them about Organon.

I think then you would get the same questions, only phrased slightly differently ("I go to the Mycon Homeworld, and I don't have the option to tell them about Organon!")

My personal preference is to put the "proper" text in over the voice clips, which will make them mismatched, but only for the English version Wink  If the release notes with the game give proper notice that some speech and texts don't match, I think it would make for a much better situation than what we have now.

While we're on the subject, I'm trying to figure out what minimal proof of the Mycon having destroyed Syra is. I've talked to Mycon and heard them talk about "the Deep Children... the dwellers in the Mohorovic..." and "spears of light in the darkness... husks speak of joy to come", and I have the egg case, but this STILL isn't enough to bring up the accusation conversation option with Talana. What else do I need? Should I keep talking to the Mycon until they say something even MORE incriminating?

I can get this information from Greenish, at a price of a couple hundred bio-credits.
I don't remember what other sources there are. This occasionally comes up for me, and I can't find the common thread. Do the Arilou mention it? I think I recall something like that.

Talk with talana about syra, It works for me even if I didn't meet the Mycon at all! The only time I have heard about them is from the Umgah, try them if it doesn't work.

Here's what you can do to "become aware" of the Deep Children, according to the code:

Step 1: Becoming aware of Deep Children:
  • Arilou: The Arilou will tell you about Deep Children and Shattered Worlds, but in order for the information to be useful, you must have visited a Shattered World beforehand.
  • Druuge: The Druuge will similarly tell you that they desire egg cases from Shattered Worlds for trade, but much like the Arilou, you must have visited a Shattered World beforehand.
  • Melnorme:  For a price, the Melnorme will tell you about Deep Children, and throw in for free the fact that the Mycons nuked Syra.  The Deep Children info is only useful if you have visited a Shattered World beforehand, like all the rest.
  • Mycon: If you visit a Shattered World, you then get the option to ask the Mycon about them.
Step 2: Learning About Syra's Fate:
  • Melnorme: The Melnorme tell you about this when they tell you about Deep Children.
  • Syreen: The Syreen will tell you about the fate of their homeworld when you ask them
Once both conditions are satisfied, you then get the option to tell the Syreen about Syra's fate, but not before.

Interesting. When I visited Beta Copernicus (i.e. Syra) and begain chatting up the local fungi, I had no such option. Weird.
