RPG -- Starcontrol 2
« on: December 10, 2003, 12:08:39 am »

I've heard mention (in this forum) of an RPG system based around Starcontrol 2. Could anyone please give me a link to a RPG-Starcon2 page?
I once had a starcon-like RPG system that I converted to be used for this purpose, but it was a bit lacking. Mmm, RPG combined with sc2 sounds like a lot of fun.

There used to be a muliplayer online RPG at www.starconrpg.com .  However, that site does not appear to be online anymore. GURPS Star Control basics can be found at  hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu/~mcmartin/gsc/ .

(You can copy/paste the URLs to use them)

I feel strangely vindicated  Grin.  I should however, in all honesty, point out that we only actually tried running a game with those rules once, and it's still pretty wildly unbalanced.

I still stand by every word on the Interbellum Rant though.

The Pkunk were way way overpowered. I do believe it's conceivable that only the captains are so psychically powerful (after all, it's only them you converse with), and the regular citizens are a touch less enlightened. At least, making that assumption would be healthy for game-play.

Similarly with the other races... the assumption that the captains are representative of the whole species is invalid, especially for the Druuge, Spathi, Ilwrath, and Thraddash.

Also, we have no real evidence that the Zoq, Fot, and Pik are sessile. I believe their story with the fire does indicate that the trio were in motion at the time.

Yeah, I was newer to gaming at the time.

The Spathi also hit one of the points that breaks GURPS (massive negative racial costs break its chargen system), and, of course, if you scan the racial data, I wasn't above making random stuff up just to make the point values balance or otherwise work out to nice round numbers (note Syreen).

And the ZFP's only actual trait (taken collectively) was Argues With Self A Lot.  The only race that I had listed as truly Sessile was the Chenjesu, and even then that was wrong (Sessile means "rooted in place" in GURPS; the correct disadvantage is the one that says you can't move directly under your own power).

Yeah, I can see the goofy toaster and plant thing hopping around. The Pik looks like it can walk, too.
