ok so i have the cd version of star control 2 and i want to run it on windows 98, i think i have to get dosbox but i don't know what command lines i need. can someone help me?

This isn't really a DosBox support forum, nor do we do support for the original SC2 except to the extent of having people check UQM for consistency against it.
Our official solution for you is to get UQM 0.3's Win32 installer and just use that. 
(But the info you want is listed under "Games->S->Star Control 2" on the DosBox site -- and to use DosBox itself, read its own documentation.)

i realised that, my apologies. i'm playing the re-released version but it seems to be lacking something, like a certain nostalgia. the sounds and everything are great, but i like the old one better.
