Spreading UQM
« on: February 14, 2004, 05:09:20 pm »

MM recently said that UQM is included in at least two Linux distros. Which ones? Since Fedora is going community based now, has anyone approached them about putting UQM in their FC2 release?

Three.  It's in the "testing" repository for RH 9/Fedora 1.  It's part of Debian Unstable.  And it's part of Gentoo's Portage system under the ebuild games-strategy/uqm.  (Don't ask me, I didn't file it there.)

Maybe when I install Fedora 2 I won't have to recompile UQM. Good news all around.

You'll find that the CVS version of UQM is much more stable than the 0.3 release, though, since it fixes the thread leaking bug that crashes NPTL-based kernels.

CVS instructions are available on the SourceForge project page, and once you've done it once, the command "cvs update" from the executable's directory will get you the latest version.

Yes, this is an evil plot to make people test the most recent version. Smiley

For those of you who have the cvs client, but aren't sure exactly how to download the new source code, here is the command line to use:

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/sc2 checkout .

Keep in mind that this'll use up a lot of bandwidth and will probably take several minutes, even on high speed.

Let the testing begin.

too bad Strikers not around. i really did apperciate the cvs builds he did when UQM was in its early versions. im not to handy with all this cvs stuff. it would be nice if some could host an updated build, to test for bugs n all. it just seems so long now, between versions, im going crazy waiting for a new release. oh well. ill guess ill just have to wait for the update when its done...

Testing

So far so good. I've been "testing" 0.31 for a while and so far no problems. That pesky thread bug seems to have been fixed (I'm running RedHat 9) and the slave shield does indeed look better.
