yet another difference between PC and 3DO
« on: February 21, 2004, 04:06:57 pm »

It seems there are lots of very small and sometimes completely unmeaningful differences between 3DO and PC versions. Such as the Slylandro saying "component compounds" or "component materials".

I'd just like to know why such differences exist.

I know that one too. As well as when the commscreen is black when you speak naughty things to Syreen, the texts are not jumping all around. And Chmmr say "No" instead of "Negative".

I suppose they were changed to be easier to ... voice act?

We had a chance to ask Reiche and Ford about this (check PNF for the transcript).  The reply indicated that there were probably deep and meaningful reasons for them, but they have since been kicked in the head by angry llamas and can no longer recall them.

(The outtakes were missing because they forgot about them completely until it was too late, and the ending sequence in the 3DO was a total replacement of the PC's.)

Maybe the voice actors just made a mistake when recording it, and it was too late to change the voice recordings (and, it doesnt matter that the text between 3dO and PC is just a bit different, does it?)

Yet another difference:
When u scan for minerals\Energy\Bio The units would appear apparently at random locations as opposed to a horizontal filter.
Are there any plans to implement this as a selectable\default figure in any up coming releases?

Aren't the minerals and bio placed randomly on the surface? Then when you travel to them and scan, it remembers were the minerals are and re-randomizes the bio.

I think Term means that the resources dont appear "top-most first" during a scan like in the SC2 version.

Well, they are placed randomly based on a static seed. Therefore, for each planet it will always come out the same.

I remember that bios always initially spawn in the same place (at least, the ones on Spathiwa do), so it seems reasonable from a programming PoV that whenever you come to the planet they would return to the same place.

Still, the difference mentioned here is not about that. The difference mentioned here is how they are displayed... do they pop up one at a time in no apparent pattern, or does a scan proceed down the planet and reveal them that way?
