Do the Pkunk and the Yehat still appear if the Pkunk go back to the Yehat before the revolution?  I can't remember but I had a feeling that they don't.

I had often wondered if our Pkunk bretheren were correct in that 'They are right and we are wrong.'  It appears they might've been, of course, I did my best to keep them from being destroyed so I haven't seen any alternatives but I'm glad to hear that even if you don't attempt to draw them away from their own seeming demise with clever, witty and ultimately silly reasons for them to not visit the Yehat... uh, where was I?  Oh yes, it's nice to know that even if you don't save their lives with tales of swollen moons andsoforth, that they still live.  Perhaps I should allow them to reach the Yehat but in my games, I never have the heart for it.  The idea of Pkunk being blown away by their avianic cousins the Yehat bothers me almost as much as the destruction of the entire Zoq-Fot-Pik race did.

These of course are all reasons to be glad that Star Control 2 is a game and I'm able to reset the Universe at the touch of a button, or I never would've forgiven the Kohr-Ah for not waiting around long enough for me to turn up and deliver a sizable can of whup-ass to their ships.

But this is all besides the point, it's nice to hear.  Maybe I shall try that sometime.

That gets me thinking. They should program it in so that you get zero reinforcements if the Pkunk haven't joined the Yehat by the time you attack the Sa-Matra.

I actually had this happen to me back in 0.1 (when I was playing entirely by 7+ year old memory). So I'm thinking either this was a bug, or people's notion that the Pkunk and Yehat have to come is flawed somehow.

Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing reinforcements in the 3DO version, and he (the fellow playing it) even completed the Revolution sidequest (whether or not it happened before or after the Pkunk's arrival I can't say).

So I guess this just requires some testing or some sort of confirmation from someone more familiar with the code.

I have the actual 3DO version as well as the PC and this version.  In the 3DO version, as long as you have instigated the revolution, the pkunk and yehat assist you, regardless of whether or not the pkunk have been "all but destroyed by the yehat" by the time you reach the Sa-Matra.  I can't remember if they still give suppport if you haven't started the revolution, guess I could test it out if I find some time.  It's a good thing they do come though, the pkunk ships rock against the Sa-Matra.

The yehat/pkunk will not come if you haven't started the civil war.  There's some other tests (SPHERE_TRACKING and FEASIBIILITY_STUDY) which I don't understand so I don't know if they're sanity checks or if there's any other conditions where you won't get the pkunk.

Personnaly, I was hoping that I'd seen the last of the Pkunk when they
tried to merge with the Yehat. After all that talk of moons, stars and
spirituality, I was ready to say good-bye.
Don't get me wrong, they're helpful and all, but when they start to move, I just let them go. No sense in distrubing their spiritual quest.

i remember the first time they stated moving. i went down found out what they were doing and sent them back...whew!

went on my merry way and...what the hell!...there at it again. i went into a mad panic trying to save them. had i known back then that it didnt matter... id let them just fly the coop. looking back now i find it quit amussing id spend so much time trying to save an imaginary race. what power this game holds to the imagination. behold the power of chee...ah, Star Control.

I figured it out right away, but I don't know how.  Only problem was that after I got in a fighting mode with the first one he hit a freak asteroid and was sent slaming into the planet. I found his brother and after warping out twice THE SAME THING HAPPENED!  It was kinda frusturating. I that part of the shofixti task was to throw your ship in between the planet and his ship. I thought that for the longest time.

I had saved him the first i saw him. Why? Well the Melnorme already told me about them and Gorno is kind of a remote area never gave the system any thought. Actually I spend alot of time looking for Zex's Beast little over a year and a half (real time not game time) pretty sad huh?
