No, no, I meant, is there a pattern of were you land as opposed to were you aim? (No, I am not asking for "whereever you put the cursor"!)

Ya, I knew what you meant but I was just messing around. As far as I know, there is no pattern for where you land. It is random.

About Alpha Centauri - I mine the two ruby worlds quite easily...try to land close, travel to a deposit, grab it, and then go back. Although as you will see below, I figured out another way to do it.
If you look at what Hayes said about mining he gives a color guide. The most profitable (in terms of density) is white. I figure from mining all the white star systems not in Ur-Quan or Yehat space in my last game (all the stuff on my mainship I want, all the escorts I want, 150K RU left over babeee!). The stars have different colors I guess based on density (#RU/#planets). The more density the more efficient your mining operations will be (less planets, more RU). Let's just say I brought back about 4K RU per category (or more, upwards of 10-12K RU in a category sometimes!) in the upper sections about each time I went out. And for those exotics efficionados, I kept running into Sapphire, Ruby, and Emerald worlds. Hayes just keeps saying "Yes this will keep the fires burning!".
And as far as the white star systems go close to Sol, I ran into tons of bio unit opportunities too. I bought all the technology, all the information, used the Melnorme as my exclusive fuel stop (quite easy to do that since I'd end up with 500 credits EASILY by the time I was ready for fuel), and finished with a 4200 credit balance (counting Rainbow worlds and the Umgah gift in there).
How to mine and get RU & Melnorme credits both answered, no? I finished mining to get these numbers in the middle of 2157 and finished the game in 2158.
Gonna have to look at the source and see if there's any of those exotics worlds that AREN'T in white star systems. I know of 4 (Alpha Centauri, one of the Vulcepulae systems, a system near Pkunk space). I wonder if there are more. Still going to have to check the white stars in Ur-Quan and Yehat space just for kicks though, I guess.

I have gotten a lot of and RU in two ways.
A. Do what me a DJ did B. Do the druuge fuel trick.
1 way to get LOTS of credits. You buy the heat and lightning resistant tech and have a few left over credits. (for refueling) You have 3 high eff. fuel tanks You have 8 cargo bays.
You just follow the rainbow worlds! - All the way, it takes about a year, but it gets you tons of everything as rainbow worlds have tons of radioactives!
Hitting Delta touri on the way does not hurt either.

Would it not be cool if their were creatures on rainbow worlds? They would be mutated of coure, but I think that would be neat.

Maybe the precursors wanted equal oppertunity for all of them to become sentient? - Or maybe the precursors had endangered species too and to keep them equal they distrubuted a equall amount to all planets.

Mining the ruby worlds are all about reacting to where they put u like I can drive around Mercury for about 10 minutes without taking a hit the inital landing can kill u if lands u in the hotspot as it spawns its impossible to takeoff u die before the command is issued. Piece of advice bout those worlds MOVE and DON'T stop it's alot easier to dodge if ur moving and also the large view is better than the one from the PC version the original view was about the size of a captain portait in Hypermelee.
