The Ender Connection

Just how deep is the connection between SC1 and Ender's Game?  I know it's well know how the rotating starmap interface was based a lot on the book, but was it sort of an unsaid thing, or was there actual communication betweeen accolade and orson scott card?

I can't see any connection aside from 'they're in space, and they're both combat simulators'. I mean, the combat school games were all about multiple ship tactics, except those in the arcade which were briefly touched-upon in the book.

I suppose there was a communication between Orson Scott Card and TFB. To be more specific, OSC wrote this book (Ender's Game), and PR3 and FF read it...

Well SC1 had a rotating 3D starmap, and I vaguely rememebr Ender and his boys fighting in space, hence they'd fight in a 3D enviroment. Didn't they have some sort of 3D practice battles as well?

Wether these two things have any connection, I don't know. All combat in space is 3-dimensional, and I doubt OSC can claim that he was the first to come up with the idea of a 3D combat enviroment. Or can he?
