This is the real Road to 0.4 update to announce the return of some UQM time to the development team, and also to set out a user-interface poll.
Previous editions: 1 2 3 4 5
A number of bugfixes have been committed to the CVS version, so some of the crash bugs in the old CVS version (in particular, crashes from quitting while in Game submenus) should all be gone now.
Actual major functionality changes still aren't there (that we have, quite literally, just recently gotten back into the swing of things was one of the few aspects of the Starfire report that was true), so there isn't really a lot to report.
You might like to see the patch that Nic just posted that does this -- it's still a bit rough around the edges, and it's applied a bit too generally, but it's exceedingly cool nevertheless.
I'm starting to rework the input code again so that you can configure your controls in-game off the Setup menu - and after talking a bit with Meep-Eep I think I have a fairly good idea of how much power to give it. However, UI design is one of those things that it's not that easy to do if (like Meep and I) you're very close to the system.
At the moment, to configure your keys, you basically have to learn a mini-programming language so that keys.cfg can be edited into something understandable. That's obviously not very optimal, so we want the "easy" control changes to be easily doable. This post may be considered a free-response poll: if you've done any changes to your control schemes, please reply talking about the changes you made. If you had any difficulties (and this includes "getting stuck and asking someone to just give you a keys.cfg that does what you want") I'd like to hear about those, too.

You need a CVS version of the source; there is a standard utility called "patch" that applies them. (Patches are created with a utility called "diff" -- CVS itself has a special option to produce them.)

MacOS X users can get the rings by downloading/installing my "unofficial release" here:
http://www.submedia.net/uqm/
As for thanks, if you want to thank me, just go out and give a copy of UQM to a friend.
