ive downloaded the content package but i havent yet downloaded the 3do voice and music package yet.
but wot do i do now? there only a load of files there no installer or anything

Right, more problems.
UQM installed alright placed the icon on the desktop. but half-way through the installation an error poppeed up about a fixed mirror or a mirror (havnt got a clue). Then when i try to load up UQM the error message pops up again and UQM doesnt load.

SCMaster, does this error occur during the download of files or when it's extracting?  If it's during the DL you may be out of HD space or you may have a modem/Internet connection problem.

If it is from the silver series from Accolade (the packed version i have is, had a B/W-Starmap, European Version), there is a TSR-crack delivered on the CD, should start automagically when you use the Root-Start-file (cannot remember the name by now). Just press Enter, and the game should start.
Beware, the TSR was not an official release from Accolade, but from some kind of crackers-group and had its own flaws. Depending on your system, either black became ligth blue (ever looked at stars when the background was blue - ugh!), or the natural Quasispace portal never shows up, making your game nearly impossible to solve.

I also suggest you'd play UQM instead of SC2.
