Why was the X-Form and Broodhome vessels removed from SC2?
It's quite simple really, they beat the crap out of most Hierarchy vessels and the X-form is cheap and can beat almost any veesel on it's own easy. An Avatar doesn't stand a chance against a X-form and with the Broodhome it can go either way.

umm....

Am I missing something? - Because the X-wing and Broodhome owners were slave shielded and when they cam out, they thought that there avartar would kick everything that the two earlier ships would.

Terminator you dolt, what's this doing in Off Topic? The Avatar replaced the other two in the story because it was deemed superior to the older vehicles.

"An Avatar doesn't stand a chance against a X-form..."

Wrong.

"...with the Broodhome it can go either way."

More like 4:1 odds in favor of Avatar.

that may be true, but with an X-form you can defeat a Dreadnought unschathed.(meation anything about my spelling and you shall suffer a fate worse than a fate worse than death.)

i have better luck using a chenjesu against the avatar, then i do using the x-form. the chenjesu, i can shoot past the zap sats, that is if i start far off. if im in too close well... if i can get turned around and face off... maybe. the x-form, lazers are far too short too leave me unscathed, and the missles get shot down before there a threat. but if you got skills terminator.... let me know. id like too see it done.

I dont think the ships had anything to do with the choosing of making the chenjesu and the mmrm-mhrm go. The creators came up with the idea of the chmmr and that only really makes sense with these two races.

Well yeah, of course. Everyone's done that at some point.

This one time I used an Umgah to beat the full compliment (14 ships, I think) of Chmmr. They were not on awesome difficulty, though... I got an ex stealth bomber pilot from the Air Force to play as them. I should also point out that he has practiced Super Melee to the point of it being a martial art to him and he is also a cyborg. Did I mention I was blind-folded, drunk, and didn't actually know we were playing Star Control 2? True story.

Hmm, I think the Chmmr idea was a convenient way to remove the two ships like Terminator said.  I remember that the only ship I bought in SC1 was the X-form, and the Chenjesu was my second choice.  If I was given a yehat, I would make it explore for a dynamo, but otherwise scrap it & other ships in favor of X-forms.

The one time I seriously played that game, I sent an Earthling out... it got the speed upgrade and proceeded to be basically invincible.

It was a great game. Too bad I only had access to it for a few hours.
*frumple*

Oh yeah! on topic. Right. Umm, I figure that getting the Chenjesu and Mmrnmhrm out of the way wasn't so hard since they could have been placed under slave shields anyway. Once PR3 and FF figured out the Mmrnmhrm would go with the Chenjesu, they figured out the idea for the Chmmr.

Back to the original post what ships(SC1 mind you) would you take against a dreadnought? Ariou maybe if ou're lucky, syreen maybe as a first-strike ship, Earthling errr..no comment, the Shofixiti maybe a squadron of them.. The Terminators,(no pun intended)Broodhomes and X-Forms are the only ships(Old Alliance that is) that are feasable against a Dreadnought. The way it's done, mind you it's VERY LONG and drawn out as well as chezzy but it works, simply convert into Y-form the Chmmr cannot catch(short of a gravity-whip that is) even if tractor beam is used. Now in y-Form make yourself move either the same or opposite dirrection as the avatar and continuously fire missles(beginning to sound like a Metroid strategy) alter dirrection to avoid zip-zats depending on timing of shots missles may hit the zip-zats themselves, eventually you will detroy one of them and you now CAN hit the damn thingI think you get the general idea just be chezzy as hell.

If you want an interesting bout try X-Form vs. X-Form

Why did you switch to talking about Chmmr halfway through that post?

Also, Earthlings are good against the Ur-Quan. Run away, use nukes judiciously. One will almost certainly lose, but can do hefty damage, softening them up for a second or a different warship to clean things up (a Chenjesu makes a good followup to an Earthling because it can convert the kill before fighters arrive)

Indeed, you begin with adreadnought, and change over to chmmr. Confusing.

Also, the arilou can be quite handy in taking out Quans, as long as you have lightning reflexes and make good use of the teleportation feature. Still, a certain measure of luck is required I suppose, at least against a human opponent.

Also, as long as you manage to keep out of the way wwith the humans, it's quite possible. It all depends on how far away from eachother you start out, and how quickly you can gravity wip. Otherwise you're dead as dirt.

The other thing you have to watch out for is wraparound. Getting up a good head of steam isn't too useful if it aims you right for the dreadnaught. Also, it's important to remember which way to the planet -- once you break off your whip, you'll need to establish a new one ASAP.
