Was watching Futurama with dad (Paul Reiche III) and he got quite flabbergasted when they mentioned a "hypnotoad." We both felt ths could have been "inspired" by the hypnotic frog in SC. Funny stuff.

Well, while the dnyarri kept on being described as a 'toad' in the game, it never looked to me like a toad so much as an umgah with a limited flexibility problem.
But what was the context? If the hypnotoad was an object of fear, then great! If it was just mentioned as a pet-shop (or prank-shop) curiosity, then...
btw: even beyond the extent that anyone is welcome here, a scion of one of the makers is welcome!

Hypnotoad (in futurama) had its own television station ("All glory to the Hypnotoad!"), where it would just sit stationary, making its eyes glow and implanting suggesions in the populace.
Hypnotoad also appeared in another episode with a pet-show. Nibbler was Teranga Leela's entry, Dr. Zoidberg was Bender's entry (as an endangered whooping crab), but the Hypnotoad got 10 out of 10 in every contest ("Hypnotoad wins all. All hail the Hypnotoad!").
It could have been SC inspired; they use a lot of space-references in that show.
