We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Or, for that matter, Ur-Quan, Kohr-Ah, VUX, Mycon, Melnorme, or Ilwrath. You can get all the others.

For humor I used to do that on the PC version of the game. I'd try playing with different ships from the start by renaming the shp files.

Hmm when I did that it totally scrambled the spheres of influence for most species.

the rename and swaping trick for PC verison of Starcon2 works. But, it gives pretty strange results my example I replaced all Un-Quan Dreads with Androsyth Guardians the game had no problem with crashes. Then, I replaced all the Earthing Cruisers with Dreads then start a new game. After going the the starmap for some reason a blue verison of Un-Quan Sphere of Influence appears. I guess Humans get blue for their color of Sphere of Influence.

When I played I replaced the cruiser with the ilwrath, but forgot to make a backup. I think I quit playing after that.

That's exactly how it worked in the pc version. Changing the shp files only changed what you fought in melee. The proper race picture and conversations will still pop up.
