I liked halo for both its single and multi player. When I get tired of one, I just switch to the other. However, the multiplayer does get annoying when for a month or so before the moderators of the game play attention, you have everyone betraying each other.

Hi sup
|
Current list of games recently played/in collection:
Age of Mythology Civilization III Grand Theft Auto III Halo Impossible Creatures Medieval: Total War SimCity 4 Unreal Tournament 2004 WarCraft III
Most of these are great. Currently I've had alot of fun playing SC4 and UT2004. If you're fimiliar with the series, I recommend trying them out sometime.

You're right in that Heroes doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Age of Wonders, but they are the same style of game.
If we're talking about the same Age of Wonders (might as well count the second one as well in this comparison) that I remember I'd say it was very much inferior to Master of Magic. The troops, heroes, and cities you get function more or less the same way but the spells they have in the game are all screwy. Most are useless or too expensive for what they do. MoM's spells on the other hand were well thought out and critical to gameplay. Also, Age of Wonders has that stupid thing where you have to sit around and wait every time you finish a turn.
The problem: you aren't likely to find a copy of it and if you do it'll be a pain in the ass to install. It's from the same time period as SC2 only even more obscure.

How come nobody mentions Counter-Strike? I got Condition Zero when it was released and haven't played old CS since. CZ kicks ass.
Some of the games I have played recently:
Fallout 2 UFO: Enemy Unknown One Must Fall 2097 Monkey Island Series Runaway Daggerfall and of course UQM

Well yes, its quite a well made and enjoyable RTS. And some of the units, especially the GLA are pretty funny Overall good graphics and ok gameplay. Nothing really revolutionary gameplaywise though...

I pretty much agree with Chaniac on C & C Generals, it's more of a graphical smorgasboard then anything (and it bogged down my system like hell).
Nothing truly unique gameplay wise though, if you've got RA2 or the original RA I'd say it'd be best to stick with them =\
