question about remixed music
« on: July 15, 2004, 11:16:07 am »

1] how do i use the remix music? where do i put the zip file i downloaded?

2] do i use all the releases all together? ie: remix pack1, 2, 3. or are they remixes of the same thing(music)?

i never got into this because of my download speed. it kept me from trying the remixes out. i just downloaded remix 1. now im here. any help would be much appreciated. thank you.

ok i believe this wasnt covered in the page you sent me to.

if i wanted to use a different battle music, instead of the one in the release, how would i go about putting in the addon? the one im talking about is called "Mortal Melee!" found at the precursors site.

its in mp3 format and im not sure how to get this to work? any help for the geek impaired?Tongue

UQM doesn't support mp3. So you'll have to either convert the .mp3 file to .ogg (which will cause quality loss), or take the .ogg file from the extras pack which was encoded from the original.

Then there are 3 ways to use it in the game:
  • put it in content/lbm/ with the name battle.ogg (extracted files always override .zipped files)
  • make a .zip file with in it a directory lbm with the file renamed to battle.ogg in it. (be sure to .zip without compression; .ogg hardly compresses at all, but it matters a lot in speed; you may get hickups otherwise in the game, unless you have a really fast computer). Put this .zip file in content/packages/
  • make a .zip file in the same way as above, but put it in packages/addons/<name> and start the game with "uqm --addon <name>"

ok i converted it to .ogg format with a format converter i found on line. i renamed it to battle.ogg and added to the remix pack one and let it over ride the other battle.ogg. omg... it works.... success! thanks meep, i bow to your skills Grin

just out of curiosity, why didnt they have two files for download? one for listening to, and the other in .ogg format so anyone can use it if they wanted too. not that im complaining, it just would of made it easier on those who are, shall we say, not tech savvy.

As Meep-eep said, the corresponding OGG file is available for download; it's in the remix pack 3 extras pack available on the UQM download page. Don't ask me why they can't provide separate downloads for the OGG files instead of forcing you to download the entire remix pack or extras pack to get an OGG. Of course, some of us always download the entire remix pack + extras as quickly as possible. Smiley

I thought the reason why we don't offer the OGG-files at the Precursors site should be pretty obvious, but I guess I was wrong. Providing both MP3 and OGG would double the required space on the server, which I don't want to do, especially for such a marginal benefit. The OGG-files are available in the extras-packs anyway, so I don't see the problem.
