Well, in all honesty, probably not. I agree that it sounds like a good idea, but not one for which I'd pay $50.

Would I buy a REMAKE that had online play?  Yes.  Would I buy an update like UQM?  No.  They also can't sell it even if they wanted to.

Someone here has a sig under the avatar that says "never pay more then $20 for a video game"

I agree

Besides there are other problems like:
Q: Which parts of SC2 could have online play?
A: The Melee

Sorry, that's not enough to get me hard earned money out of me pocket, especially if there is this little thing called Time Warp

For $50.....

hmmmmm....

More than £30 for an update that allows me to play melee over the net?

No Thanks.

You are aware that you can probably have way more fun playing against someone in the same room as you, since you'll a) know them and b) be able to attack the in a literal manner if they beat you.

As per the excellent Melee guides of PONAF?

I would pay 10 bucks for an online version =p

Online play has enough problems in itself, at least for a guy like me who has a hard time dealing with the crapshoot of finding good, challenging, non-swearing non-cheating non-big-fat-jerk players on the Internet. I don't think I'd pay extra money to be able to do that with a game that's already plenty fun in single-player mode (and FREE!).

Hell, Id pay £29.99 for a fully working PS2 version complete with maps and full _unedited_ manual WITHOUT the online play.

Beats the £100 for the 3DO and £20 for SC2 I paid 6 months ago.
Had to get the guy to ship from Australia to the UK, how an Aussie got hold of a mint complete US version of the game I do not know.

Still, £120 for SC2 on a console? Bargain!
PC's are not my thing, and Im waiting to find a friend with broadband to burn me a disc with UQM on it.

Oh yah, Id be even more willing to buy the above if it also came with SC1, you know, for ****s and giggles.

One last thing, when you say remake, you worry me. Most remakes I play are inferior to their originals. Im assuming you mean as is, as opposed to tacking on some kind of derivitive 3D space exploration and combat system?

God, I miss the days of when 2D was popular.

Best I would do is maybe 5 bucks - no more. That feature just isn't that valuable thanks to other games......  :-/

I think the words that were approximated made perfect sense as they were. Maybe what you were intending to say didn't make any sense. Tongue

One thing i wouldn't mind buying is a SC2 with online play and a whole bunch of addon storylines to the game.

Cloaking device anyone? =p

They also can't sell it even if they wanted to.

That's not true. Anyone can sell GPL software, but you'd also have to provide the source at no cost ("no more than your cost of physically performing source distribution") with that software. And anyone can then again freely distribute that source under the GPL.
So basically selling is allowed, but rather pointless.

I myself wouldn't pay extra for an ability that I rarely use let alone having it over the internet.  As it is I don't care for and don't play multiplayer competitive games (eg deathmatch without good bots).  I find that cooperative storylines are rare and I haven't been bothering to buy/play games that don't have even a cursory attempt at cooperative play (unless the genre doesn't lend itself to coop).  On the other hand I have bought games that weren't so fun just because they had coop. However if the only way to play any feature required connecting over the internet I am out again.

I don't mess with mmos, I PERSONALY view mmos as the single biggest threat to gaming and won't lay one penny down on even a decent looking game if the only way to play is to connect to some online server.  I mention mmos because anything resembling the mmo model I steer clear of.

And actualy I wouldn't mind throwing some money down on something like UQM, an update of a game by fans that leaves the basic play intact as well as plot line.  Actualy having never played the 3do version, UQM has been a major update for me, plus I have a computer that can handle all the smoothing going on (biadv w/triliniear battles) I am especialy happy Smiley
