I believe there was a program somewhere that would extract them as WAV files. Let me see...
Ah! Here it is. http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/classicgaming/starcontrol/sc2/sc2_wav.exe

I said this before they are in the content zip file(win version) as wav. files. All the combat sound effects. It is organized(thank god) go into the race you waant to see they are labeled primary and secondary.wav and are on the bottom(WinZip and RAR). some races have more than two effects and are unique titles. Example "launch fighters" is under urquan/secondary.wav where as the effect for getting them back is titled urquan/fighter_get.wav. On the original version of SC2 it was embedded in the executable, so it is likely that it is only useable on the cpu version.

I'm not sure. All I know is I ran it with my current installation of UQM and I wound up with a TON of wav files in my star control folder.
To answer your question, it does work with UQM.

Just download and run that program I linked to earlier. You will find those sound effects among the myriad of WAV files it extracts.
