How about DS?
« on: December 01, 2004, 12:14:59 am »

Wouldnt it be awesome if Starcontrol 2 were to be ported to the nintendo DS? The system has all the capabilities required for at LEAST a non voiced version of the game. The touch screen would be good to navigate menus, and the starmap...any comments?

That would be pretty cool.  Let us know how it goes, and post some links when you've got a playable version of it ready for us to test.

You know what would be great?!?!? A port of the game
to the C64! Oh yeah. It already has the colour support and
the joystick is easy to handle in BASIC. Melee might be a little
slow...

Not if we convert the artwork to ascii.

Darn. I was just going to ask about a DS port as a joke.  What's with people posting these game related topics to the Starbase Cafe anyways?

By the way, the UQM music sounds great on the DS.

I don't get the DS. What's the big deal? There's another screen... with a map on it?

Well, the stylus is awesome.  I didn't trust developers to use it well after what I saw at E3, but they did a great job on Mario (the only game I've played).
I think that's the best part, but the dual screens, powerful hardware, microphone, and wireless are also all new things to the handheld console world, and it will be interesting to see how well they are used.

I think we should port UQM to not merely the Commodore 64 and Colecovision platforms -- Atari 2600 too! I'm sure players will get used to flipping the difficulty select switch to alternate between primary and secondary weapons.

We should also make sure to port it to the Babbage machine in case we get sent back in time.

I'd hate to have to crank the stupid thing fast enough to make melee playable.  Grin
Why not make a Turing Machine version of SC2 so that Mathematicians and Computer Scientists can play it on dry-erase boards?   Roll Eyes

Nintendo is going to be in DS when they realize this thing is big, ugly, and everyone already played Mario 64 in 1996.
