Spoilers below. Highlight to see.
The Ilwrath have no play in to the whole Pkunk/Yehat deal; they just move out the way when you send them off to fight the Thraddash, making it easier for you to get to Procyon and talk to the Chmmr without having to be flamed by a hundred million buggers on the way.
The Pkunk won't die if you do the whole Yehat deal right. If you use the Shofixti to start the Yehat "Civil War", you'll catch wind of them again, though it won't be till near the end of the game, when you're actually in the middle of taking down the Sa-Matra. But don't be alarmed when you see their sphere of influence completely disappear; as long as Commander Hayes doesn't say anything about people losing conciousness in the Starbase and as long as the civil war is at least in some effect, everything will turn out great.

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Oh - they don't leave until you've visited them? Huh -- and what are the other quasispace trips for??? I understand the first one, for the clear spindle, but unless you're going by plot and refusing to use the spindle until you've been told how to do so, I don't get it.
