Does any one know what happened to the Precursors?
I know that the Spathi say that the Precursors have hidden themselves from the rest of the universe.
I also know that the Sylandro (Beta Corvi, Gas Planet) say that they assembled(?) rainbow planets and that the pattern of where they are also have something to do with it.
Also, can the programmers of The Ur-Quan Masters make Star Control 1. I've never played it, but I hear good things.

SPOILERS:
To be clearer about it, the devolved Precursors are the Ortogs, the cow-like creatures that the Unzervalt colonists hunt for their meat and pelts.

I've never played SC 3. What do Rainbow Planets have to do with the de-evolvution? And why do the eternal ones ruthlessly exterminate the advanced races like the Androsynth? And what is with the Arilou preventing "them from smelling" us?

they change our smell so the orz can't find us I don't trust sc3 as a source of information.

Well - that is a theory, but according to SC3 - no.

Most of my questions are answered. But one big one still remains: What do rainbow planets have to do with it?!

GIANT SPOILER ALERT
If you've discovered all the rainbow worlds in the game, you'll notice that they form a pattern; they look like a giant arrow. When you factor in knowledge derived from the starmap originally shipped with the game (a copy can be found online here) you'll see that the arrow points towards the galactic core. So the idea is that the Precursors bugged out of this region of space and headed coreward; and from all appearances, did so in a big hurry.
SC3 completely ignores this rather intriguing plot point. My memory is faded, and PNF doesn't have a detailed plot breakdown handy with which to refresh it (nor does anyplace visited by Googlebot, it would seem), but I recall them being some kind of "hyperspace stabalizer machines", assembled by the Precursors along leylines of dimensional weakness in order to keep everything working smoothly, and of course in the millenia after their disappearance, everything went to hell and they broke down, causing hyperspace to collapse. This means that the pattern from SC2/UQM was merely an illusion that had no deeper meaning, it was a matter of form following function. I'm not particularly fond of this little plot twist, but I will admit that it's a suprisingly clever one, especially considering how uninspired most of the rest of SC3's plot is.
As for the Eternal Ones, it's not that they attack everybody, they EAT them. Because they're, you know, hungry. And the resolution of that particular crisis was one of the most lazy and anti-climactic endings to a game that I can recall seeing. And I've seen alot of game endings.

In SC3 canon, Orz and Eternal Ones are not the same, but Orz refer to the Eternal Ones as their "friends". Take that for what it's worth.
The Orz or entity(ies) behind the Orz in SC2 -- "Them" -- don't seem to have disappeared the Androsynth because the 'Synth were particularly advanced, but only because the Androsynth successfully made contact with them. What the Arilou said leads us to believe that making contact with "Them" is as simple as knowing too much information about "Them" and thinking about "Them". They can smell our knowledge on our thoughts, and use it to find us.
