Hey, has anyone noticed the similarities between some of Larry Niven's "Known Space" stories and some of the stuff in Star Control 2? (I searched on the archive here but didn't find anything) it's been a while since I've read the former or played the latter, but I read the books after completing the game and some of it seemed very familiar...especially the Melnorme trader and the puppeteers.  I see Larry Niven got a special mention in SC1...unfortunately I don't remember all the parallels but they really were quite striking...

Wow, isn't that sort of amazing, in a vague sort of way.
Ever notice how Star Trek and Star Wars both have, like, some
space stuff in them? Freaky, isn't it?

Paul Reich has cited Jack Vance, Larry Niven, and Orson Scott Card as being particularly strong influences on SC2 (see interview at http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/history/files/scchatlog.txt ), so you're probably not wrong to point out similarities!

I do believe you've just been precociously rebutted.

What, he rebutted a direct claim from the creators that they *were* influenced by certain authors when they were making the game?
