Spathi? What spathi? You're imagining, hunam.

Something occured to me. There's a large project going on to remix the various race themes that didn't get remixed for the 3d0 version correct? Well, I remember seeing an earlier thread which had a preview of an excellent ur-quan remix, but which seemed to lack, well, menace.
However, it occurred to me that the ur-quan weren't menacing 100% of the time - well, close to 100%, but if you've ever met one after they lose the war, they're actually pretty nice guys. And that particular music would probably be totally appropriate for the post defeat ur-quan.
Out of curiousity, how difficult would implementing the ability to have different music for the races play based on the specific encounter? IE, allowing general spathi's to have one music, the safe ones to have another? I can imagine the yehat having one tune, then after the revolution, the imperialist keep the old tune while the rebels get a new one, and so forth? Would it be especially code intensive? And seeing as I don't know too much about composing music, how much of a problem would it be for the remixers? Are there a lot of discarded 'not quite fitting' remixes left over from composing that might fit in specific circumstances, or is it generally not something where you have a lot of discards?

That, my friend, is a brilliant idea. It might be a little tricky to code, but it is a much more realistic goal than most of the other things people would like to see added to the game.

Submit or die.

Yeah, except for one thing. It breaks the projects prime goal.
The prime goal is to reproduce SC2 first.
Added features will come later.

Well, I believe the plan is to allow picking and choosing of tracks to a certain degree. IE, you could choose to use the re-mixed Shofixti track, but the original Ilwrath track, etc. However, I don't think they are going to offer the options to the extent that you propose. But maybe someone will add it.
BTW, the Ur-Quan track you heard had nothing to do with the official remix project.

Oh, well, I wasn't thinking for the official project. I mean after everything else is said and done. I don't expect anyone to drop everything and do it this way in the main release, just curious about how doable it would be. I don't know much about coding, but I know enough to know it might be relatively simple or it could require massive rewrites of code.
Well, that and it occured to me that if it's something that might be desirable after they finished getting the game to do everything it's supposed to do, we might want to mention it now, while the remixing is going on, to humbly request that any remixes that don't make it into the final cut be kept around just in case. Just seems to me there would be a lot of occasions where you wouldn't want a completely different tune, just a different version of a similiar one, and if we brought it up now remixes that didn't quite make the final cut might be kept around just in case. But, like I said, I don't know too much about how the mixers compose, so it might be moot.

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Yes... at work we just had a meeting about requirements engineering. A lot of this stuff is great... for version 2. Version 1 should provide the PC/3DO game, no frills need apply (unless they're way easy).
