The keys.cfg File
« on: April 14, 2005, 06:29:09 pm »

I need to change my keys for the single player at least because of some keyboard ghosting problems!

I can find the keys.cfg (or whatever it's called) file, but I can't open it. Windows asks me to choose a program to open it in.

Anyone know why? Do I need another program to open this in, or does it open in Notepad or something?

Thanks!

You should be able to open it in Notepad. Just choose Notepad from the list of programs. You may want to tell Windows to remember the file association while you're at it.

Windows doesn't (by default) recognise the extension ".cfg". There's no point in changing the extension, really, as future versions of UQM will have a built-in control configuration utility anyway. This is just one of the small problems you run into when using unfinished software.

hey, I read through this fourm and the others that dealt with questions about changing the key configuration. I can't figure how to do it... I can't find keys.cfg on my system... I can play the game, but I just can't shoot any weapons in any of the melee's.... I just don't want to play it on cyborg... letting the computer trash the Ur-Quan for me.

Please someone tell me how to change my key settings...

RTFM.

These controls are configurable by editing the keys.cfg file which will
be automatically generated in your personal directory for uqm data the
first time you start the game.
The location of this directory varies per system.

On Microsoft Windows systems this is a folder named 'uqm' in the
application data folder for the current user.
This is usually in one of the following locations:
- "C:\Windows\Application Data\"
(Windows 95, 98, SE without separate users)
- "C:\Windows\Profiles\YourName\Application Data\"
 (Windows 95/98/SE with separate users)
- "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\"
 (Windows NT/2k/XP)
The "Application Data" folder may be hidden. You can tell Windows to display
hidden files and folders in the Folder Options dialog, which you can
find in the Tools menu of any folder window.

On Unix systems this personal uqm data is stored in "~/.uqm".
