Hey Guys, Just wanted to say that I am totally blown away by the dedication of the developers and supporters of what is, in my eyes, the absolute unequivical, best RPG/Adventure game of all time.
When I recently found out about the project (just through randomly searching for SCII in some hopes of finding an old DOS emulator and the original game disks) I was totally elated!! Not just for the prospect of playing this classic on a modern machine, but also that there is a whole community of people who odviously feel the same way about this game.
I am no gamer, Im just a regular joe with a somewhat dorky past I came across this gem when I was about 12 years old, and proceded to complete the game (at least one failed attempt I might add!) about 3 times. Im 25 now and although I dont play computer games anymore, other than old ones occasionally on emulators, I did then, big time, and to this day, nothing has even come close to SCII. The backstory, outstanding writing, witty and downright hi-larious dialogue, is on novel standards, not video game.
Everyone involved in this project, Paul and Fred, you have created what is a legend in my eyes, and thank god there are cool ass people like yourselves for making, and then restoring from the video-game graveyard, this work of art for future generations to enjoy and learn from.
And thank you to all you open source dudes.. The icing on the cake is I can play this thing on my iBook!! or virtually any other platform for that matter.
Just wanted to drop in and give my deepest respects to all of you involved with this thing. Thanks for letting me re-live this memory. Odviously 3+ times was not enough. I think thats definatly saying something, coming from a non-gamer.
In 'video game history' class 20 years from now, their gonna be studying Star Control II!!
Thanx so much,
/S

Actually, I think this is seconded by just about every member of this forum.
Some of the best computer games ever were made in the early 90s, imo of course, and SC2 was one of the very very best of the bunch.
I must join the chorus of praise for the devs of this port, as well. You've all done, and keep doing, outstanding work. If I had any programming skills *at all* I would have helped out in that department, but as it is, I'm happy that I can contribute in what small way I can, by helping to remix some of the music.

Hey Void, I also produce electronic music, mainly house and tech-house type stuff for the underground 12" single market. Its so funny to see all you heads doing SCII remixes right on.
Id also like to add (Im sure I dont need to tell you) that the original soundtrack, consisting mostly of what is now called 'old school' techno, was quite groundbreaking for the time as well! Although that stuff was allready popular on warehouse dancefloors everywhere, it wasnt quite popping up in video games and other aspects of popular culture yet. Not surprising to see the makers of this classic inovating on that front as well.
take er easy,

Yea, I wish I could lend this project a hand too, but they don't have much of a need for 3d artists, as replacing the original art would take away from the preservation/nostalgia of what's being done here. Nothing can ever beat the original.
Keep up the good work, guys. We all appreciate it!
