questions about .4
« on: May 22, 2005, 09:33:35 pm »

1] are you guys still doing builds? if so, what files do i need to download now to use builds, since the pc intro/ending are already apart of the content? is the binary all i need?

2] ive noticed that the content, music, and speech files are no longer in .zip/.rar form. they all end in .uqm. how do i open them, or can a change them to .zip/.rar. or do i just associate my winrar with .uqm files?

ps: great job guys! keep up the good work hobby.

About question 2:

Just .zip files, renamed. You can associate them with whatever program that handles .zip files...

Oh, and the asshole in me wants to shout "RTFWN!" (Read The Fragging What's New), since it says:

- Content packs may also be named ".uqm" - these are really still
zip files, but you can't expand them by accident.

No, just rename them with a .zip extension if you want to unpack them; associating .uqm files with WinRAR will likely confuse/anger WinRAR.

The decision to change the extension on the ZIP files was an effort to counteract the unstoppable compulsion some users have to unzip their content packs when trying to install them; I believe future plans for the files are to have metadata stored inside them as well, a la .jar files.  You are aware that you don't need to unpack the content to play the game, right?

before .4, the builds had an updated binary along with updated content that i assume contained all the info for the intro and ending credits(pc version).

here

now that the intro/ending have been included in the content. i also assumed that all i need to use for the builds(if there still being done) was to replace the updated uqm.exe. did you follow along now...

The snapshot builds will likely continue as before. If any content gets updated along with code, the content update package will be posted along with updated exe. So as a general rule, you need to download both if you want to continue using the snapshots (later).
However, the snapshot build system has not been completely updated yet to handle post-0.4 code.

FYI: If you make a folder called "lbm" in your content directory and place your song inside, calling it battle.ogg, it will override the content package.
