Any Bio-diverse data helps, and certain aliens give more data than others.  Also, the Melnorme are interested in Rainbow worlds.  They don't appear rainbowish to the naked eye; only your sensors.
Spoilers:

The proto-spathi guys and carosel beasts give great bio data
Certain sentient aliens can give you bio-data in trade or gratitude.
Rainbow worlds form lines corewards; if you find two, you can usually find more.  They are _usually_ yellow in the big screen, and often are the only planet orbiting the star.

Some aliens will mention them. Others are in likely mining locations. Once you've seen enough, the pattern of their placement becomes clear, and you can quickly find the rest.
