I just loved Melee as you played with some ressemblance of real physics. Inertia, gravity. You could feel you were there. Storyline was involving...
Now I found an amazing freeware spacesim that is just amazing. It's name is Orbiter. It beats even Microsoft simulations. Piloting with real physics... a dream come true ...and you can make add ons if you know about C++, 3D modelling and texturing (I don't know about C++ or making 3DS files, darn).
When I started playing, I couldn't believe it... Looks like freeware and opensource are producing masterpieces, just like UQM team. The only skill I had to make add ons was music, and I used opensource software from www.modplug.com which is also a masterpiece IMHO.
But Celestia is just like a 3D viewer. Orbiter is a real simulator, if you want to get somewhere, you need to pilot using real space physics. And for those who have expereince piloting aircraft, it's a bit different to pilot in space.
It's really cool. I just would like to see someone modelling a Starcon vesel and programming a virtual ship using C++ as an add on to Orbiter. It would be kind of cool.
