Depending on your OS the save game files can be stored at:

On Microsoft Windows systems this is a folder named 'uqm' in the
application data folder for the current user.
This is usually in one of the following locations:
- "C:\Windows\Application Data\"
(Windows 95, 98, SE without separate users)
- "C:\Windows\Profiles\YourName\Application Data\"
  (Windows 95/98/SE with separate users)
- "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\"
  (Windows NT/2k/XP)
The "Application Data" folder may be hidden. You can tell Windows to display
hidden files and folders in the Folder Options dialog, which you can
find in the Tools menu of any folder window.

On Unix systems this personal uqm data is stored in "~/.uqm".

Place the file you download there and see if you can run it.

UQM has a different save game format, so SC2 save games will not work. The UQM save format will also probably change in the future, as the current format is quite messy. Some data isn't saved (e.g. bug 453) and the save game format is different depending on machine architecture (bug 44).

Also, there are minor differences in gameplay between SC2 and UQM (mostly related to randomly generated content such as planet topography and minerals, see bug 737).

What this means is that:
  • SC2 saves won't work in UQM and vice versa.
  • At some point the save game format will change and prevent you from using new UQM saves in old UQM (new UQM will at least have a convertor).
  • Big-endian systems (e.g. Macs) can't use saves from little-endian systems (e.g. PCs), although Windows and Linux on i386 should interoperate.
