I didn't learn where the helix was until after I'd sent the ilwrath up north.

I got there before the thraddash were wiped out, but even after killing 30-40 of the thraddash, they still ignore me and I can't get the helix.

Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to return to an earlier save file before I ordered the ilwrath around?

Just wait until the Thraddash are wiped out/when their SOI no longer covers the Aqua Helix's system.

But the ones defending the Homeworld and the helix do not count in the number of killed Thraddash. Only the Battlegroups killed.
