I hate acting when roleplaying, feels so forced and akward. I mostly enjoyed the character creation (Drawing pic and buying equipment/stats). When playing I enjoyed the problem solving, which could be very unorthodox, unlike computer 'RPG's where it's all combat and crazy level inflation (and dialog 'options'). I like to be able to... tear off a chair leg, club down the weapons shop owner with it and just take the weapons I want... or put a horse sadle on my head and imitate a chicken, distracting the weapons shop owner while my friends take the weapons.
I also enjoyed making the GM improvise, cuz I just can't stand predetermined quests.,

"keep in mind that during such games you have the advantage of smacking a defiant player, that's making fun of everything, with the GM's manual"

"tear off a chair leg, club down the weapons shop owner with it and just take the weapons I want"

Wow, and people say video games promote violence. : 0

No, no, video games can never compete with good old pen and peper RPG's.
You see, video games just promote violence, while pen and paper games are, in the immortal words of my devout aunt, "the gospel of Satan".

Ivan,

You would be absolutely surprised at how serious some of the on-line RPers are.

It reminds me of the RPGA system.

DM's put a sign up sheet for their module then 6-8 people sign up to play in a few days at a predetermined time.
Your character sheet is posted and validated and you are judged by your RP skills.  You get feedback like on eBay and if your feedback is low then no DM will let you in their games anymore.

I'm like 40+ but I figure that if the Japanese have virtual shopping malls where you buy real things and meet real people using your personal avatar then I better get with the times.  Not gonna let any 13 year olds kick me into the digital slums...

Hehe, that's funny. I've heard things similar from my family. I don't see what's so scary about people throwing dice and making up illogical and imbalanced rules on the spot.

I think the part the Christians don't like is the spells.
Wizardry and such. Evil stuff.
Many adults are of the mind that RPing leads to
violence. There were a number of cases back when
of people who played D&D actually attacking
people. Of course, what is often skipped over,
was many of these people already had mental problems
or were high on acid.

There are a couple of skits by the Dead Alewives which parody the D&D "controversy". They're old, but for those who don't know them already, here are some links.
