Missing feature
« on: October 01, 2005, 02:22:48 am »

In the original SC2's update text file I read of a feature that will let you know your current fuel range in the starmap:

Quote
Range Circle: Whenever you enter the starmap, you will see a dim gray circle
surrounding your position.  This circle represents your range with your present
fuel supply.  REMEMBER: You use fuel landing on planets and escaping from
battle, so this range circle can change even if you are not in HyperSpace.

Although I wasn't able to see this circle in SC2 (maybe my monitor's bright is too dim and the circle is grey), I think it's an interesting utility to add and would certainly be useful to see how far you can go with your fuel cargo.
I'd like to know if you guys are ever going to add this to UQM.

It's there.... been in UQM since the first version.
If you cannot see it, crank up your gamma correction.

Even without the circle, it still shows you how much fuel it
will take to get from point A to point B. Times that by two and
compare it to your fuel load. A great way to tell if you
can make it there and back again.

I might be going crazy .. but I was sure that when I played SC2 all those years ago for the first time on a PC, that there were two circles - one that showed you your maximum travel and another one that showed your return trip (obviously half the diameter)

But then I loaded up the version of SC2 PC that I downloaded off an abandonware site somewhere years ago (I have 8gigs of abandonware I've collected) and ran it in dosbox, and only one circle.   Am I really going crazy, or was there a version for the PC that had that feature?

I definately had the version where you could oversell your landers.  The version I have now (the PC DOS version, not UQM) doesn't have the landers bug, so its definately a different version that what I played all those years ago.

Yeah, what you had was basically the same thing.  The landers bug was fixed in a subsequent patch.  The one that doesn't allow that is the latest and greatest for PC DOS SC2.

Then again, it's nothing that needs to happen in order to get more RU than you know what to do with.

Don't worry you're not going crazy.
It all happened because Star Control is Eeeevil.
I swear I remember getting an afterburner from the Thraddash shortly after making them join me.

Come to think of it SC can make you go crazy. Even to this day, every once in a while I have a nightmare involving SC and something Ultimately Evil about it.

the only possibility I have in mind is that you're confusing SC2 with SC3, that has the "there and back again" circles.
though it's REALLY hard to confuse SC3 with anything- once you play it you remember how lame it is.
