Fot or not?

Most people here consider "canon" in the SC sense to be "Star Control stuff by Toys for Bob officially released as Star Control", which rules out SC3 (not written by TFB) but not SC1 and SC2. In cases where SC1 and SC2 conflict, SC2 is considered to override SC1.
If you define "canon" based on the publisher or trademark instead of the creator, SC3 is also canon.

Decide for yourself.
SC3 is fun. But do you want all of the mysteries solved?? I really want to undo the Ortog part.
Let the Ortogs be some other race, but not THEM!
Otherwise, Enjoy! That's what the games should do. Enjoy you! If you enjoy SC3, feel free to do so. But most of what is discussed here is based on the SC2 universe, which itself is based on SC1 (which did not have much of a story anyway, it's more a background for SC2).
Enjoy! Krulle

hopefully not befroe SC2041.
Until then humankind might have developed some theories which allow us to understand what happened to them.

Legend Entertainment worked for them.. but the guy there got treated like dirt, Accolade did not even listen to his plans he says.. his reply letter in the Warlok files was pretty harsh too.

yea, it has a few bugs when it comes to sound playing... and there was NEVER a patch released for that game... EVER.
One of the annoying bugs was that once the factory built the last base module it shut down permanently. That was a problem because certain modules (fuel storage) would ONLY be built if there is need for them (ie, if the fuel is at max and no more can be stored). And if the need arises AFTERWARDS then there is nothing that can be done about it.
I did have fun playing the game though. And the voice acting was really good.

I think the major reason Sc3 gets considered as it does is because TFB (creators of SC1 and SC2) absolutely had no input in it.
Kind of like a sequel that had nothing in common creatively with the original movie. It might be good, but there's still a sick feeling down deep inside watching it.

Although relying on the wiki for something like this is a bit risky, I'll give the link:

Thats about right. While fun, it did NOT have a SC feel to it. Which is why some people don't consider it canon. Kind of like with dragon lance being worked on by different authors or how the dune series was added to by frank's son. While the additions might be good, and set in the same universe, they are by different authors and dont have the same "feel" to them.
though with dune. at least it was his son who probably had more inside infomation. but he really isnt that good of a writter, he should have made more books before dune. as for star control 3. its more like sc1 like how the star map is setup and the colonies, i think i had more fun with the sc1 melee system, but sc2 has like an rpg element and i like the music. would very much like an expanded sc2 with ship specs in sc1 and better graphics sorta like how in sc3's melee the ships are 3dish.
