Just wondering, is there some story behind the Mark II that you guys all know about that I haven't seen or read? The only mention I know of the Mark II is in the ending slideshow of SC2.

The Mark II was supposed to appear in a seuqel to SC2 made by the same authors. That never happened, but the company that did make SC3 (which is total and utter crap, and a disgrace to the series) does included the Mark II in the storyline.

There is no more hint to the Mark II than the ending sequence. And even the Mark I is nowhere to be mentioned, if I remember correctly.
Enjoy! Krulle

I've finished SC3 (and I agree it was crap, especially the terrible AI in Melee) and I don't remember any mention of the Mark II, but that was a few years ago...
Thanks for filling me in.

We do not know if the creative gods meant the Vindicator to be the Mark I. This would be much speculation.
Enjoy, Krulle

The children would be interested in the Mark II since it is standing right behind them on the vary same planet. The Vindicator/Mark I might be in Orbit. And the Quote does not firmly state that the Mark I is the Tug / Service Vehicle. We know the Mark II was meant to be a cruiser, maybe the Mark I was a corvette, a battle station or whatever. A service vehicle does not seem to qualify as a specialized combat vehicle, compared to a cruiser, which is quite definatly a combat vehicle....
But I see your point. Thanks for quoting the chat logs for me....
But bending the story to introduce a Mark I in a fan-made game would pose no problem to me. Nowhere in the game it is mentioned, that the service vehicle we flew is the Mark I.
Enjoy, Krulle

True (for the Vindicator). But I'm still not convinced that the vindicator was/is the Mark I.
There are indications, yes. But it is not unambiguously disclosed. (Sorry, I'm working in the field of patents, thus I learned to interpret things very widely.)
And as a child I often asked for things which I could see. And the Mark II seems to be standing on the planet, directly in view of the two grand-children and the captain.
Any possible Mark I (be it destroyed or not), if it is not visible, the interest might fall fast asking for that one first. The kids might only know that the Mark II is something special, but maybe not knowing the story about any Mark I. They know a story of how their grandfather became a war hero, saviour of the human race,... and stuff like that. But maybe some else found the mark I, but YOU've found the mark II. That's why they might not ask for the Mark I. Maybe they have, and the game designers did not put it in any slide show. Maybe because the kids already know everything about the mark I.
Being penetrant, yes I know. Gonna stop with the discussion here.
Enjoy! Martin

Black Spathi? Or Spathi?

The default ship Vindicator, which I named "Da Ship" was destroyed in the bombing at the Sa-Matra, so the Captain of that Vindicator (or Mark I) could possibly get another ship named the Mark II since Mark I was destroyed....
Still, I think the Mark II has a different story then the Vindicator Precursor ship, cause the grandpa is like 50 years after the war... It could have enough time to even build 3 or more ships....
