Question: what is the fastest ship in Star Control 2 (hypermelee included)?
We all know the Pkunk Fury is very fast. But I seem to remember the Slylandro Probe contending with if not beating the Fury in speed. And also, I'm not sure where the Androsynth Guardian falls as far as speed, when it's in comet mode.
So those are three obvious contendors, but I believe that the Druuge Mauler is actually probably capable of attaining the highest velocity out of any ship in the game. Just fire a couple of shots in succession and the accumulated recoil will have you flying across the screen like nobody's business! Of course, you can't possibly maneuver while going that fast so it's not necessarily useful.
Can anyone confirm what the fastest ship is?

The Pkunk Fury is the fastest ship.. the Slylandro Probe is almost exactly as fast, though in a chase, the pkunk can close in (though it would probably take 10-15 seconds of flying if it was chasing in a straight line, the probe is that fast). The Androsynth Guardian's comet mode is exactly as fast as the Fury.

Actually, the Pkunk Fury at top speed is a bit faster than the Guardian in comet form. The Guardian and the Slylandro Probe are just as fast, this is easy to see if they are both controlled by keyboard.
The fastest thing in the game, though, is the Umgah, when it uses its special reverse. The best source for this kind of information can be dowloaded here, it's even based on the 3DO version.

I know this isn't exactly the proper answer to the question asked, but I'd say the Arilou are the fastest ... nothing beats a point to point hyperjump.

Wow I would've guessed the Thraddish would be the fastest with their afterburners. The Pkunk are definitely the most agile though (except for maybe the aforementioned Arilou)

Yeah, I forgot about the thraddash + umgah... man, the thraddash sure does take care of the cpu pretty easily, most of them don't treat the afterburners as a weapon

Hm, yeah I guess it depends on exactly what question you ask. Fastets point-to-point is potentialy Arilou. Fastest max normal forward thrust I guess would be Pkunk. Fastest 'special' velocity would I suppose be Umgah. Fastest sustainable special velocity would be Druuge?

So, who can turn the fastest then? Start spinning them!

well, the probe is weird ... it never changes velocity speed, just direction ... besides the weird probe controls, what other ship?

You mean that the probe never changes speed, just direction. Velocity is a vector..

A thought just occurred to me. Does the facing of the Arilou change after hyperjumping in combat?
