Hello all, a friend just told me about "UR-QUAN MASTERS", I used to play Star Control 2 on my 3DO a long time ago and enjoyed the idea of doing it again.  My thanks to those who made this possible.  Anyhow although it took me several weeks I beat it on 3DO my first time playing the game.  In my first new game I am having some problems.

First it seemed like I remember ship upgrades being more affordable I don't remember having this much trouble getting my ship up to speed.  I have been reading the FAQ and I can' t seem to locate a link for rich mineral star systems at least ones close to home.

Second space battles seem to be a lot more difficult the Sylandro probes are kicking my butt.  I'd consider going on the mission to get rid of them but I would never make it.  I can't remember ever having this much problems this early on it seemed like by the time I was my ship was strong enough to destroy them with one blast.

Thanks for all the help.

Upgrades more affordable:
In the 3DO version, there was a "lander" bug giving you extensive amounts of money.
But for me upgrades were always the same affordability as now in UQM.

Maybe sell your (useless) gun to speed up your ship... Might help.

But in the beginning of the game, it is definatly this hard, later on it's mostly a question of if you have the technology.

Close mineral systems: try the ones in Ilwrath space... Most of them are pretty good and close by, plus fairly safe for your lander.
But you'll need to fight some Dill-Rats then.

Enjoy! And welcome!

You should look around the Tauri star system, I think it's Delta. There are a LOT... A LOT of exotic minerals. Zeeman is good too.

but the fuel cost of landing there is around 1.3 units of fuel at each of the planets that have the expensive minerals and they take multiple landings to get them all so make sure you don’t use to much up otherwise you cant get home. I had 2 full fuel tanks when I started for the system when I got back I only had half of one.
Also You will need 2 empty cargo holds when you go there, or you will have to leave some behind.
