I have a question for you guys about Star Control 3. I have played all the way to the end and am now getting sentience from all the races but heres the odd thing. When I went back to highpoint 1 to use the device it told me I didn't have enough sentience and I went on the Icom and it said I needed to collect sentience from -1 races. anyone know whats up?!

My suggestion would be to load the game before you have collected the sentience and collect it from one less race.
Probably in the code they uses (sentience == numberRequired) instead of (sentience >= numberRequired) for the win condition.

That's not the problem. I definatly used all possible races (16, I believe), 3 more than necessary.
Maybe it simply says - 1 more to go, and always has the - before the number.
Or it's a problem with modern OS's. I've played it under Win95 and it was bordering the possibilities of SC3.
What happens if you visit one race more?
Goes it to -2?
Can't really help much further, I just played the game once, completed it and threw the box in the cupboard.

I got it. Thanks guys turns out it was a blonde moment on my part. Then again it really wasn't because the walkthrough says to go to highpoint 1 so naturally I did but your suppose to discharge it into the Warp Portal thingy majigger
