1) What SciFi movie or series of movies, do you think most needed a sequel, but never got one?
2) What SciFi movie sequel (or sequels inside of the same series,) do you most want to erase from existence?

I'm sorry, but this thread is about sequels, not prequels, so you are all disqualified. 
About the Star Wars prequels though, they're not that bad if you only look at episodes 1-4 (and kill Jar, or course.) You may ask "why would we only look at those four episodes?" The reason is, those are the only episodes directed by Lucas, and the only epidodes where he worked on the screenplays. And they all have a similar style, even though episode 4 is so many years apart from the rest. So basically, what you like about star wars is a combination of Lucas' vision, executed by a couple different directors and screen play writers.
But I can understand your pain at seeing good series' go bad. To protect my favorite movies from the horrible sequels that usually follow, I just remove their existences from my memory.

I'm afraid you are mistaken, there never were any sequels to the Matrix, at least not to my recollection. 
Anyway, if I could erase a sequel from existence, it would be any sequel to the Terminator series, assuming it was not directed by cameron. Of course, I don't recall there ever being one. . .?

As for movies that should have sequels/continuations? Hm...
Firefly/Serenity, anyone?

Some IRC buddies told me that Firefly was awesome, I downloaded the pilot, loved it, wanted more and screamed as my internet connection went down a few days (read: not able to download any more)... I've been wanting to get the DVD of the series myself, but...
As to star wars: I disagree that only seeing ep. 1-4 would make the series good.
The fact remains that ep. 1-3 are bad movies. This is not the case with eps. 4-6, which are epic, cheeky, and fun.
4-6 weren't afraid to indulge themselves in the over-the-top styles of old-time science fiction serials. 1-3, however, wallow in high-school level melodrama and poor acting. There is an enormous difference.
Ramen to that, too!

Well, the pre/se-quels I don't like are probably easy to guess, it's just the usual.
I'd really like to see a sequel to MoonTrap, an old B movie about 14,000 year old robots on the moon. I'm working on my own fan sequel called Venus Trap, which is on Venus instead.
Virus could be interesting, maybe the robots took over more than just the ship?
I always enjoy the Alien movies, but the first and second are definately the best, I could do without the others as I don't think they added anything interesting.
Metropolis... I doubt they could do it justice though. It's definately an untapped scifi genre.
